Rocky Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season With a Second Place Finish; Men Finish Seventh at the Claud Jacobs Invitational

VICTORIA, Texas.- The Rocky women tied for second place while the men finished seventh in their spring season opener in Texas.

After shooting a 42-over-par 326 on day one, the Battlin' Bear women rallied back with a stronger day two, shooting a 25-over-par 313, good enough for a second-place tie with host school University of Houston-Victoria. No. 8 ranked Texas Wesleyan earned a team victory with a 36-over-par 608 score. Individually, Valentina Zuleta led the way, shooting a 12-over-par 155. Grace Metcalf and Isabella Downing each turned in top 20 performances, as Metcalf finished 12th overall with a score of 15-over-par 158 and Downing finished 14th with a score of 17-over-par 160. Tyla Potgieter rounded out the scorers with a 23-over-par 166 to place 21st. Kadence Fischer shot 26-over-par 169 and Landri Paladichuk shot 29-over-par 172.

On the men's side, Jared Smith was the leading placer for the Battlin' Bears, tying for 17th after shooting nine-over-par 225. Jake Johnson tied for 25th overall shooting 14-over-par 230 and William Dexheimer and Daniel Sigurjonsson tied for 28th overall after shooting 15-over-par 231 to round out the Battlin' Bear scorers. Adam Hyde-Lay shot 16-over-par 232 and Aidan McDonagh shot 20-over-par 236. The Rocky men placed seventh overall with a team score of 54-over-par 914. No. 9 ranked Texas Wesleyan earned the team victory with a team score of four-over-par 868.

The Battlin' Bears continue their spring schedule as they host the RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas starting March 6th.
