Rocky Men’s Basketball Unable to Defend Home Court; Lose 78-72 to Montana Western

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Rocky men couldn't shake their losing skid Thursday evening, falling by six at home to Montana Western.

The Bulldogs would make the first run of the ball game, as Abi Adedo would get a layup to fall to give the Bulldogs a seven-point lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half. A.J. Wilson and Elliott Brooks would combine for the response, leading the Battlin' Bears on a 20-7 run for the next five minutes of play. In that run, the Battlin' Bears would shoot 7-8 from the field and 3-4 from three to grab a six-point advantage. Montana Western would respond with a 12-2 run in the final four minutes of the half to take a four-point lead into the halftime break.

The second half would go back and forth to begin, but the Bulldogs would find their first bit of separation after a 9-0 run, bringing their lead to 10 with 15 minutes left in the second half. While the Rocky men would battle back behind a scoring surge by Kael Robinson, Western's Michael Haverfield would score eight straight for Montana Western to keep the Bulldogs ahead.

The Bulldogs were able to match any sort of run the Battlin' Bears put together in the final 10 minutes of play, as Montana Western wouldn't let Rocky within five points for the remainder of the game, serving Rocky their fourth consecutive defeat.

Kael Robinson led the way for Rocky with 22 points and six rebounds. A.J. Wilson added 21 points and four rebounds, while Jesse Owens finished with 19 points and five rebounds. Senior Kace Kitchel drew the start down low on Thursday evening and tallied a career-high 16 rebounds in the loss.

Michael Haverfield scored 22 points with five made threes to lead the Bulldogs.

The Rocky Men (11-12, 2-7 conf.) return to action on Saturday afternoon, as they host the University of Providence.
