Rocky Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Each Take Second at Yellowjacket/Battlin’ Bear Open

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Track and Field put together a strong team effort, including five individual event winners, as they competed in the Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bear Open on Thursday. 

Track Event Highlights

Jackson Wilson opened his outdoor season with an individual victory in the men's 5,000 meters, crossing the finish line in 15:21.28. Justin Glass and Joseph Orndorff followed with top-5 efforts, as Glass finished fourth with a time of 15:44.61 and Orndorff finished fifth in 15:50.30. 

Taylen Stinson and Kallyn Wilkins turned in impressive efforts in the women's 1,500-meter, as Stinson took the victory after crossing the finish line in 5:01.30, with Wilkins following behind in second in 5:01.50. 

Rocky women's relay teams set a pair of school records on Thursday. The 4x100-meter relay team of Kellan Wahl, Kendall Wahl, Vaiden Vanderploeg, and Charlize Davis finished in 50.59 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Jenna Hillman, Tyne Stokes, Kallyn Wilkins, and Maya Pearcy finished in 4:10.62. 

Charlize Davis and Kellan Wahl finished side by side in the women's 100-meter, with Davis taking second overall with a time of 12.892 seconds and Wahl in third with a time of 12.896 seconds. Vaiden Vanderploeg followed shortly after, taking fourth overall with a time of 12.99 seconds. 

Seth Petsch put together a strong finish to earn second overall in the men's 800-meter, crossing the line in 1:57.16. Matthew Conrad followed with a personal best time of 2:02.73. 

Carter McCauley took second overall in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.97 seconds. 

Vaiden Vanderploeg dashed to a third-place finish in the women's 200-meter with a time of 26.83, with teammate Kellan Wahl following behind with a fifth-place finish. 

Jenna Hillman placed fourth overall in the women's 400-meter with a time of 1:01.08. 

Zachary Zwiesler put together a second consecutive personal best in the men's 1,500-meter after finishing in 4:06.97, a time that earned him fourth overall. 

Tyne Stokes raced to a new personal best of 2:22.59 to take fourth in the women's 800 meters. Freshman Maya Pearcy followed in fifth place with a time of 2:23.29. 

Charlize Davis placed fourth in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.6 seconds. 

Grace Timm cruised to a new personal best in the women's 5,000 meters, taking fifth with a time of 18:46.93. 

Field Events Highlights

Dakota Manecke improved her school record mark from the previous meet, recording a mark of 3.70 meters to win the women's pole vault. Her new personal best ranks second in the NAIA this season. Teammate Hannah Christman finished third overall after clearing 2.95 meters, which ranks her inside the top 20 individually in the NAIA this season. 

Jay Jetmore earned his first mark of the season, winning the men's pole vault after clearing 4.40 meters. 

Kendall Wahl and Brooke Wirkkala leaped for personal bests in the women's triple jump to grab first and second overall on Thursday. Wahl finished with a mark of 10.90 meters, with Wirkkala shortly behind with a final mark of 10.60 meters. 

Drifter Skillicorn placed second in the men's long jump with a new personal best of 6.25 meters. Christian Gonzalez followed in fifth place with a final mark of 5.91 meters. 

Logan Wells earned a new personal best in the men's triple jump, recording a best mark of 10.99 meters. Wells also recorded a new best in the men's javelin, placing 10th overall after a throw of 42.26 meters. 

Team Results (Unofficial)

The Rocky women finished second overall with a team score of 114. Dickinson State earned the team victory with a team score of 147. The Rocky women split the Rimrock Rivalry season series, as MSU Billings finished fifth overall with a team score of 52. 

On the men's side, the Battlin' Bears took second overall with a team score of 76. Reigning Frontier Conference champions Montana Tech cruised to a team victory after compiling 134 points. The Rocky men also evened up the Rimrock Rivalry season series, with the Yellowjacket men finishing sixth overall with a team score of 53 points.

The Battlin' Bears will be back in action on April 12th as they travel to Helena to compete in the Fighting Saints Open.
