Rocky Golf Competes Well in Loaded Field at the RMC Intercollegiate

HENDERSON, Nev.- Valentina Zuleta, Jared Smith, Jake Johnson, and Daniel Sigurjonsson all turned in top-10 individual finishes as the Battlin' Bears wrapped up the RMC Intercollegiate on Wednesday. 

Jared Smith led the way on the men's side as the Rocky men placed third overall as a team. Smith finished shooting two-under-par 214, highlighted by a three-under-par 69 in his second round. Smith was one of just five athletes in the field to break 70. Jake Johnson tied for sixth overall with a two-over-par 218, Daniel Sigurjonsson finished ninth overall after shooting four-over-par 220, and William Dexheimer finished tied for 21st overall after shooting 12-over-par 228. 

The Battlin' Bears finished third overall with a team score of 11-over-par 875. The Rocky men shot the top round as a team in the first round, finishing two-under-par 286 in the first round on Monday. They trailed No. 3 ranked British Columbia and No. 4 ranked OUAZ by just three strokes in the final standings, as both top-five ranked teams tied for the team victory after shooting eight-over-par 872. 

On the women's side, Valentina Zuleta earned a runner-up finish after shooting two-over-par 218 over three rounds. Grace Metcalf finished 15th overall after shooting 24-over-par 240, Kadence Fischer tied for 18th overall shooting 30-over-par 246, and Tyla Potgieter finished 22nd overall after shooting 31-over-par 247. 

The Rocky women finished fourth overall in the team standings, shooting 84-over-par 948. Reigning national champions British Columbia earned the team victory with a team score of 29-over-par 893, led by the individual winner Bo Brown, who shot an even-par 216. 

The Rocky Golf team will take a couple of weeks off of competition before the men head back to Nevada to compete in The Battle, which will be hosted by Wayland Baptist at Laughlin Ranch Golf Club, starting Monday, March 25th. The Rocky women are next scheduled to compete in the Music City Classic, hosted by Cumberland University at Hermitage Golf Course in Nashville, Tennessee starting April 7th.
