Six School Records Fall for Rocky Track and Field Friday

BILLINGS, Mont. - A handful of Battlin' Bears wrote their names in the program record book Friday afternoon as Rocky Track and Field put on an impressive display at the midway point of their season.  

Track Highlights

Rocky's women's 4x800-meter relay team, which featured Tyne Stokes, Taylen Stinson, Maya Pearcy, and Kallyn Wilkins, cruised to an A-Standard mark in their first attempt in the event this season. Their finish crushed the previous school record by over 15 seconds and ranks as the second-best time in the NAIA this season. 

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Kellan Wahl, Kendall Wahl, Vaidyn Vanderploeg, and Charlize Davis inched ahead of their own school record, taking first on Friday with a time of 50.23. 

Robby Gress earned a program record in the men's 110-meter hurdles, taking fourth place with a time of 15.99 seconds. Gress also recorded the second-best 400-meter hurdle finish in program history after taking second with a time of 57.87. 

Kellan Wahl surpassed her own school record in the 100-meter dash with a finishing time of 12.59 seconds. She led the charge of a Battlin' Bear sweep of the top three places, with Charlize Davis finishing second (12.67s) and Vaidyn Vanderploeg (12.99s) finishing third. 

Charlize Davis earned a victory in the 100-meter hurdles with a finish of 15.15 seconds. Davis now owns the top three finishes in program history. 

Jenna Hillman won the individual 400-meter race with a time of 1:00.57, the sixth-best time in school history. 

Four Battlin' Bears recorded top-five finishes in program history in the women's 200-meter, including Charlize Davis (2nd overall; 26.42s), Vaidyn Vanderploeg (3rd overall; 26.46s), Jenna Hillman (4th overall, 26.60s), and Kellan Wahl (5th overall, 26.69s). 

Zachary Zwiesler and Matthew Conrad were the top two finishers in the men's 5,000-meter. Zwiesler crossed the line at 15:55.85, with Conrad following at 16:05.51. 

In Dickinson, Corbyn Svec earned a program record in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, winning the event with a time of 10:09.43. On the women's side, Grace Timm took second place with a time of 12:16.03, the 10th-best finish in school history. 

Field Highlights

Freshman Logan Hughes made his mark on the Rocky record book, recording the program's best hammer throw. Hughes recorded a final mark of 46.27 meters, surpassing his coach Elijah Barkell's previous record of 45.72m. 

Dakota Manecke earned the victory in the women's pole vault with a best vault of 3.45 meters. 

Kendall Wahl finished with two top-three finishes, taking second in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.41 meters and third place in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.10 meters. In the triple jump, she tied her own mark for fifth-best in program history. 

Jay Jetmore competed in the javelin for just the second time in his collegiate career. He finished fifth overall with a mark of 43.15 meters, ranking fifth in program history. 

Team Results

With five of six Frontier Conference opponents present, an incomplete squad of Battlin' Bears finished third overall on the women's side with a team score of 116 and fourth overall on the men's side with a team score of 45 at the Fighting Saints Open. 

Up Next

The Battlin' Bears will head to Missoula this weekend to compete in the Montana Open, beginning Friday, April 19th.
