The Rocky women dominated in their conference opener this past Saturday at home, defeating Montana Tech 56-35. The victory was the Battlin' Bears' first win at home this season.

The Rocky defense was the star of the show, holding Montana Tech to just 35 points, only 11 made field goals, just 20.4% shooting from the field, 18.8% from three-point range, and only five points in the fourth quarter to run away with a victory.

A group effort offensively complimented the strong defensive effort, as Gracee Lekvold, Paige Wasson, and Sydney Dethman all tallied double figures. Wasson added 11 rebounds and four steals, while Lekvold dished five assists and grabbed nine rebounds.

Game Notes

On the Road
The Battlin' Bears will make their first road trip of the Frontier Conference schedule this weekend, playing two of their three straight road games, including visits to Great Falls and Havre. The Rocky women remain undefeated on the road, with a combined record of 8-0 in away and neutral-site games.

Player of the Week
Freshman Paige Wasson was named the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week following Rocky's conference-opening victory over (RV) Montana Tech. The 5-11 guard from Whitewater, Montana, tallied her second career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, adding four steals and a block to an impressive defensive night in which Rocky held the Orediggers to just 35 points.

Defense Leads the Way
The Battlin' Bears are tough to beat when they click on the defensive end. They have held their opponents to 65 points or less in 11 of their 14 games this season, winning nine. The Rocky women are allowing just 58.3 points per game this season and are undefeated when they hold their opponents to 60 points or less, doing so seven times this year.

Scouting the Argos
The fifth-ranked Argos and preseason favorites will look to bounce back following a loss to No-21 Carroll College on Saturday. Providence returns nearly their entire starting five that made a trip to the NAIA title game a season ago, led by 2023-24 Freshman of the Year Keanna Salave'a, who is averaging 18.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game this season, while 2024-25 Preseason Player of the Year Ashlee Maldonado averages 15.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game to open the year.

Scouting the Skylights
MSU-Northern became the first Frontier Conference team to reach 10 wins on the season following a win over Montana Western on Saturday, their fourth consecutive victory. They are led by transfer Canzas HisBadHorse, who averages 13.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting over 50% from the field and three.
