Pearcy Claims All-American Honors on Final Day of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Maya Pearcy capped off a stellar career for Rocky Mountain College by earning NAIA All-American honors in the 800-meters, leading the Battlin' Bears on the final day of the NAIA National Championships.

Pearcy, a senior running her final race in the green and gold, clocked a time of 2:08.95 to finish fifth in a highly competitive 800-meter final. In a down-to-the-wire finish, a mere two seconds separated the top five runners in the nation. This performance marks Pearcy's fourth career All-American honor across indoor and outdoor track, and her second lifetime podium finish in the 800 meters.

Unpredictable weather plagued the championships all week, directly impacting Friday's field events. Following a 30-minute weather delay to open the day in the pole vault, the elements proved difficult for the entire field. Battlin' Bear freshman Keenan Morris was unable to clear the opening height, joining 10 other national competitors who struggled to find their footing in the conditions.

Senior Brooke Wirkkala also concluded her Battlin' Bear career on Friday, finishing with a no-height in the women's high jump. Despite the tough finale, Wirkkala left her mark on the program, graduating as the school record holder in both the high jump and long jump across both indoor and outdoor seasons.

Pearcy's top-five finish secured the lone team points of the championships for the Battlin' Bears, landing Rocky in a tie for 54th place overall to conclude another successful season on the track.
