Preview

The Battlin' Bears will hit the road again after an exhibition match against MSU Billings last week, which saw Rocky fall for the first time this season, but in a game that did not count against their record.

The 14th-ranked Rocky women will have two matchups in Dickinson this season, beginning with the host school Dickinson State on Friday evening. The Blue Hawks are off to a 2-5 start to the season, winning their first two games of the season against Midland University and Kansas Wesleyan, but have fallen in their last five games. They return much of their roster from a season ago, headlined by 2022 Second Team All-Conference and NSAA Newcomer of the Year Samathana Oase, who is averaging 13.1 points per game and leads the team with 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. The Battlin' Bears have won their last 10 straight against the Blue Hawks, dating back to 2017. These two teams played each other three times a season ago, as the Battlin' Bears outscored Dickinson State 224-137, holding the Blue Hawks under 50 points in all three victories. Dominique Stephens scored 10 or more points in all three wins a season ago.

The Battlin' Bears will follow up with a match against Valley City State University, a team they haven't faced since the 2015-16 season when they split two matchups. The Vikings have begun the season 5-3, most recently defeating Dickinson State at home in the 2023 Dakota Clash Classic. Valley City State has been led by 2022 Second Team All-Conference guard Ashlyn Diemert. The 5-foot-9-inch guard leads the Vikings in scoring with 12.7 per game, while also swiping 1.6 steals a game. Valley City State frequently applies full-court pressure, helping them force over 21 turnovers a game so far this season.
