Last Time Out

The Rocky women split their home games a week ago, defeating MSU-Northern 58-48 on Thursday before falling to #20 Carroll College in overtime 70-65. Gracee Lekvold did a little bit of everything in Rocky's win over the Skylights, totaling a season-high 20 points, along with five rebounds and five assists. The Rocky defense was excellent in the win, holding MSU-Northern to 38.3% shooting from the field and 25% from three-point range.

In Saturday's loss to Carroll College, Rocky still impressed throughout despite the narrow loss. Four of Rocky's five starters tallied double figures in the contest, and all five starters played 40 minutes or more. Rocky held the lead for the majority of the contest after a stout defensive effort to start. Still, the Fighting Saints got hot to close the game in regulation and overtime, swiping a win away in the Fortin Education Center.

Game Notes

On the Road Again
The Rocky women hit the road for two of their final four road games of the regular season, taking on Montana Western and #25 University of Providence.

Player of the Week
Freshman Isabelle Heggem earned her second career Player of the Week honor, announced by the Frontier Conference on Monday. Heggem, a freshman from Winifred, Montana, was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The 6-foot-4-inch forward swatted eight total blocks over the weekend, including five blocks in the narrow overtime loss to Carroll College. She grabbed six rebounds per game and swiped 1.5 steals, leading the Battlin' Bears to a 1-1 record. The tallest player in the Frontier Conference ranks first in blocks per game this season during conference play (1.9) and tenth in rebounds (5.4). She has tallied at least one block in her past seven games and has two or more blocks in five of those games.

Defense Reigns
The Rocky women have continued to be a strong defensive unit, forcing 12.4 turnovers per game over their past five games and holding their opponents to under 40% shooting from the field twice.  According to the Massey Ratings, the Battlin' Bears have the 12th-ranked defensive unit in the NAIA this season, which includes facing the 12th toughest strength of schedule.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Montana Western will enter Thursday looking to snap a five-game losing skid against the Battlin' Bears. Four of their five losses have been by double digits, and three of the five losses, the Bulldog offense was held below their season average of 67 points. Senior guard Payton Hagy has been lighting it up from deep as of late, hitting four or more three pointers in six of her past seven games.

Scouting the Argos
The national runners-up have hit their stride following a 1-4 start to conference play, riding a four-game win-streak, including wins over the top two seeds in the conference in the Battlin' Bears and Carroll College. Sophomore forward Keanna Salave'a has been a driving force for the Argos in their win streak, averaging 19 points and 14 rebounds per game in her last four games.
